Sustainable Rave Fashion: Daniel Poole's Iconic Streetwear
Fashion is very much at the epicenter of the rave scene.
When Daniel Poole launched his original street wear brand in Britain est.1987, his clothing soon became the rave wear of choice with alien chic, large pockets and graphic prints, his fashion adding to the thrive of the acid house scene. With a great ability to absorb the atmosphere and feeling of rave, Daniel Poole was able to create garments that worked with the music and the people, mirroring the euphoric feeling of the party and standing for everything that rave was trying to project.

And now he's back! After 20 years, the well known street brand returned after seeing the likes of The Shamen and fellow ravers dancing in their clothing throughout the late 80’s and early 90’s. Iconic pieces included a full-length Mac made from lightweight nylon which could be packed into a small bag, graphic pills t-shirt, DP printed wrap skirt and the techno tribal shorts. My favourite is the jumper ‘Israel 1992’ with the words ‘HOPE LOVE PEACE’ - it just captures so well the feeling of being at a rave, with people using music to escape the world and give them new found hope and reassurance.
We in the 21st century are lucky enough to be getting a portion of Daniel Poole, sporting high quality, environmentally conscious graphic t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, bags made from reconstructed MA -1 flight jackets and a Wavy Garms/ DP vest collaboration. The brand was re-launched a year ago with sustainability in mind. Most of the clothing is made from 100% organic cotton and obtains a GOTS (global organic textiles standard) along with ‘confidence in textiles’ labels assuring the absence of harmful chemical substances in all DP products. The brand also uses recycled cotton and polyester in their tote bags and organic cotton for the sweatshirts. The most exciting sustainable fabrics Daniel Poole are using are Tencel® and Modal®, both biodegradable fabrics made from eucalyptus or beech tree pulp. DP has released mostly graphically designed t-shirts and jumpers such as the ‘Nature is Culture’ t-shirt, with further to be released in the near future.

Here's to more unique, innovative and sustainable fashion from DP to accompany future ravers and the new rave movement!
