Review: BaianaSystem - Agua Remixes [Razor-N-Tape]
With their newest release, Razor-N-Tape dishes out an exquisite collection of remixes of the band BaianaSystem. The EP is brimful of club-orientated cuts, combining the sounds of one of Brazil’s most exciting, contemporary DJ, Producer and Remix troupe with the modern, dancefloor sounds we’ve come to expect from the label.
Starting things off, A1 is a blissful, synth-laden remix with chugging grooves, delicate tribal percussion and dreamlike melodies tastefully layered in. The combination of textures creates a deep yet playful result, provoking those sunset moments on the beach stage.
The second track see's Jimpster deliver a more percussive cut. At a slightly higher tempo, the dub delves more into a more hypnotic, tribal soundscape, while maintaining a relaxed, sunset beach club vibe.
On the B side, fellow Brazilian and previous label contributor Diogo Strausz teams up with label boss JKriv supply a pair of tougher, darker cuts. B1 is a clubbier take on the original, with a shoulder-rolling kick, more prominent use of the vocal and topped off with a bubbly acidline.
The final track is a sizzling exploration into more electronic / dark disco / italo-sounding landscapes. This prime-time addition adds a little more grit to the release. The percussion is carnival-esque at points, enhanced further by the melodic textures. The final product is just over 6 minutes of tangible energy that has ‘summer day&night party’ written all over it.
