Premiere: Direct Function - I Want To See My Friends (Jerk It MCR)
It's a pleasure to premiere a second track from Manchester based Jerk It. This follows a string of releases from the label during the lockdown period as they supported creatives who were out of work, with all the proceeds going to the artists and designers.
Stepping up the the label next is Manchester based producer Direct Function. As co-founder of the Modern Logic parties - whose ethos is to celebrate eclecticism in electronic music and support local talent - Direct Function is close friends with the Jerk It crew, running several nights together including bringing Sputnik One over to Manchester for the first time.
'JERK006' marks Direct Function's return to producing, after a hiatus of several years. We at Halcyon are delighted to bring you 'I Want To See My Friends' from the diverse EP. In the words of the label themselves 'I Want To See My Friends is a sun drenched beer garden, an ice cold drink in your hands with a garage swing in the background'. Indeed, the track is full of nostalgic, dreamy synths that make you wish lockdown was (offically) over, shuffling drums, a grooving acid tinged line and looped distorted vocal samples which float in and out like the snippets of overheard conversation you would hear from the beer garden of a pub itself.
'JERK006' drop next Friday. Catch the whole EP on Jerk It's Bandcamp from the 17/07/2020.
